The Ceylon Booksellers Importers &
Exporters Association.
In 1958 several leading booksellers who were book importers decided to come together to form the Booksellers Association of Ceylon to protect the interests of the booksellers and the growing requirement of the reading public, as the government of the day began to impose import restrictions and taxes for imported goods in order to stem the outflow of foreign exchange, as the goal was to be self sufficient and less dependent on imported goods.
